Hey diy Ass-kickers!
I worked with a client once who wanted coaching to help her “get back to being me again”.
She was lost in a life full of habits and routine that had her doing things she wasn’t all that happy about doing and not doing the things that she longed to do.
She was divorced with a family, a small business, and was dating someone long-term. Yet none of those parts of her life brought her as much joy as she was looking for, as much joy as she deserves.
She was feeling like a failure personally, professionally and wanted to dig deeper to understand why. She had been through many an emotional shit-kicking and was disappointed in herself that she had “hit bottom” again. She had lost faith in herself to be able to make changes that would increase her happy.
I don’t recall how she found me, but she did and we started to work together. Weekly at first, then at a slower pace as things changed up for her.
We spent time digging down to all the beliefs about herself, including her feelings of failure and the shame that went along with that. We made a plan for how to improve her self acceptance and self-love habits. We got clear about what life on her terms actually looked like.
And we linked the life she wanted and how she could get it in very real, tangible ways.
Not waiting for something to happen or someone to fix her. Because that is real diy ass-kicking, recognizing when your life is not giving you what you want and being brave enough to make changes to yourself to get it.
We worked together for the best part of a year. Like I do with all my clients past and current, I would get off the phone and marvel at how she was so open, so vulnerable not just with me, but with herself. Truly a powerful thing to be a witness to.
Then she dropped off of my radar. I didn’t hear from her, except to get the odd response to one of my blog posts. She was off doing her own thing.
A truth of coaching is that the self-learning and shifting happens outside of sessions. You may leave a session with an aha or food for thought, but it’s outside of the sessions where you percolate your awareness more and practice new habits and routines that help support the life you want. And that was true for this woman.
She randomly sent me a note recently saying this…
“Thanks for helping me, believing in me when I had lost all faith and felt I had nothing left to fight or live for. I’m in such a different place now and can honestly say I’ve got this! Life is good for the most part and when those sticky situations rise up for me, I use my gut feelings and my voice to respond. It’s wonderful, and I am truly enjoying living drama free!”
I want you to know that change can happen for any of us, at any time. We just need to start.
Because if you see yourself in this woman’s life, I’m positive you’re not digging the feelings of failure and disappointment, the excuses that live in your head for not being the woman you want to be, or the drama that distracts you from your own light.
What are you waiting for? Courage, confidence, commitment?
They are all waiting for you on the other side.
Where you are you again.
