You’ve got this amazing opportunity in front of you, one that you know will move you forward. An opportunity to do something that lights you up and will help you grow in a big way.
But wait. To take advantage of the opportunity, you have to do something that’s scary. Maybe you’ve done that something before with a negative outcome. You don’t want to go back to feeling the way you did when that something didn’t work out.
So what do you do? Do you take the opportunity to grow, or do you allow your previous experience hold you back?
This came up for a client of mine recently, so we coached it out. Yes, I just made up that term! And it came down to what was more important to her. Inner growth or fear.
Believe me when I say that lots of women if left to their own devices choose fear. We can rationalize our fears in a million and one ways.
And when we do?
Growth doesn’t happen. Joy doesn’t arrive for the experience or the accomplishment. And fear doesn’t move out of the way, it just stays inside our heart, mind and body.
I’ve had my share of that scenario. Sometimes it’s been about doing something that I wasn’t great at doing. Sometimes it’s been about that comparison thing, how I wouldn’t measure up to someone else involved. But over time, that just left me sitting in my own fear and saying no to things that I dreamed of doing.
There will always be shit that makes us feel like we should hide over moving into our own light. And yes, I say light because when we’re doing what we know will help us grow, our light shines brighter as we move into our true selves. These days, I’m siding with my true self.
The only way through fear is looking at it through wide eyes. Knowing what your triggers are, knowing how you typically respond to those triggers and planning for how you can respond in ways that honour your growth.
In other words, recognize that what you want is more important than your fear.
Don’t let fear take over, do that growth thing for you.
And keep in mind the Universal slap on the back of the head. She will definitely not let you rest until you face whatever block is in the way of you being your whole self. That’s your purpose right there.
We all want to grow, shine and feel good, right? Yep.
So whatever the opportunity that lights you up is, do it anyway.
