“Stop waiting for others to change. Recognize that every person has the right to be whatever they choose—even if you irritate yourself about it.” Dr. Wayne Dyer, best-selling author and speaker.
Love this quote!
It’s so true. Every person has the right to be whatever they choose.
What do you think? Is this a place where you struggle sometimes?
The reason that I love this quote is because it is true. No matter what anyone is doing, they have the right to choose that path for themselves, whether we like it or not.
So stop expecting others to change for you. Maybe they can’t. Maybe they just don’t want to. None of their decisions or their actions are for us to decide.
Instead, start noticing what you want from this person. Better friendship? More intimacy? More respect? More commitment?
While I don’t believe that we have the right to demand anything of anyone, we do have the right to say what’s not working for us. If you’re not getting your needs met in a relationship, then call it. Not from a place of insisting that you know what the other person must do, but from a place of knowing what is important to you.
Leave them room to grow as you do.
We also have the right to change those we surround ourselves, to those who share our values. Once you know what you want, you can always go looking for it.
Did you catch the end of Wayne’s quote? “-even if you irritate yourself about it.”
So take the grain of sand out of your underwear, stop the irritation and start choosing what works for you girl.
You’ll both be happier.
