“If I am to step into a new experience,
I need to end or adjust behaviours that don’t serve me” ~Dianna
We all know, deep down, what we really need to have the holiday we want. Here are some eye-opening things to avoid while you’re working your ass off to get there! Here you go…
- Listening to Aunt Ruth when she pressures you to have your holiday dinner with the the entire family. Actually, don’t listen to Aunt Ruth or anyone else who pressures you to do anything. That’s more about Aunt Ruth than about you, and you my friend are a grown-up and can make up your own mind about what you want to do.
- Getting sucked in by the holiday music and decorations at the mall and buy things that weren’t in your budget. Remember how you want to feel after the holidays too.
- Thinking that any gift or decoration in your home will make or break your holiday experience. Go with the good feeling it will bring you first.
- Consuming food and drinks just because you “deserve it”. You deserve the pleasure in what you consume, not the thing that you think will make you feel better in the midst of a crazy holiday.
- Expecting perfection, it’s not available this year. Or any other.
- Going through the motions of old traditions when they aren’t completely enjoyed anymore. Try making new ones.
- Not asking for help. It takes a village to put on a holiday spread.
- Spending too much time with people who you don’t want to spend time with. Admit it, we’ve all got them.
- Believing that you can say yes to everything that you are expected to do or be part of. Honour yourself over your “shoulds”.
- Letting others determine what your holiday will look like. Create plans with other for shared time, yes. Doing what you think others want you to, no way.
