Wow, what a week this has been!
There is such fear and anxiety happening right now, particularly for our US friends. There is worry, there is anticipation, there is wanting to bail and live somewhere else.
And there is no ignoring the impact of the political climate in the US, it’s drawn a line between people for or against. It’s important to remember that those two sides are as close as they can be to polar opposites.
So what do we do with all that? Here’s my take.
I suggest that we decide exactly what our values are in relation to human and social justice, health care and love of human kind. Ok, I know you’ll be saying that you consider those things all the time, and that’s a really good thing. We should all be acutely aware of where we stand on the issues that are dividing us.
But we can’t stop with that. We need to begin to use our voices to create community among like minded people. I’m not suggesting that you need to organize a political or justice rally unless you are so inclined.
I’m taking about living the values that are important to you. Connecting with people who hold those same values. Reaching out to people who need help because it fits with those values. Behaving in ways that honour those values. Teaching our children the importance of those values.
Live what you know you need.
It may be simple but it’s a place to put our energy that is waiting for the shoe to drop and hoping it’s the shoe we want to see.
Because at the end of the day, that may be all you can do.
