Happy Easter everyone! Hope the bunnies are hopping and the chocolate is flowing!
NO is a word that we often don’t appreciate.
For a giggle, I took a quick look at the dictionary for how the word NO is used and there were three things that I found interesting.
NO is used to indicate that something is quite the opposite of what is being specified.
NO is used in notices or slogans forbidding or rejecting something specified.
NO is used to give a negative response.
Here is how I interpret those uses of NO. Saying NO is you saying yes to something better for you. Saying NO is you rejecting what doesn’t work for you. And saying NO is a powerful way to put a stop to a conversation that is not leading you where you want to be.
Saying NO is you standing up for yourself. It’s you deciding that what you want, need or desire is important enough to you that you are prepared to put an end to anything that might be blocking you from having it.
And that’s good, very good.
I’m sure I don’t need tell you why ignoring your own needs is such a dangerous game, physically, mentally, emotionally and even spiritually. Instead let’s have some fun with common ways to say no. Try these on for size!
I don’t care to, thank you very much.
It’s my turn to speak.
I love myself, I love myself, I love myself first.
Not now, not ever.
No bloody way.
My life, my decisions.
Are you fucking kidding me right now?
I’ll take a NO on rye please.
Not even if you’d pay me.
I took a vote within myself and it was a unanimous NO.
Read my shirt, it says NO.
Got a favorite NO phrase? Do share! I’m sure I have used all of these at some point in my past, and could always use some new material!
Hoppy Easter!
