I’ve been thinking a lot about what it means to truly heal, not just on our own, but alongside others.
You know those moments when you realize you’re not alone in what you’re going through? That’s real magic. Whether it’s a friend who just gets it, a group you vibe with, or even a stranger who shares their story (like in all four of my Find Your Voice, Save Your Life books), it’s proof that community support is a game-changer for our healing journeys.
Let’s be honest, healing can feel like something you need to do on your own. During the start of my healing journey, I felt like I could never tell anyone what was happening with me. It’s a shame thing.
It feels weak and shameful to acknowledge to ourselves that we are voice-challenged to any degree. And it feels doubly shameful to admit to others that we suffer with our silence, even when it’s friends, family, support groups, or coaches. As a coach, people will follow me for a very long time before they build up the trust to ask for support. Those who do reach out have begun to release their shame in the name of being true to themselves.
But here is the honest truth: when we share our stories or even just listen to others’ stories, the path suddenly gets a little clearer. We are pulled to the courage, the compassion, and even the accountability that we know lives in circles, collectives, and group programs. It’s where we learn similar lessons together, like that it’s our right and responsibility to use our voices, set boundaries, and find our way back to ourselves.
One thing I’ve learned from my own experience (and from witnessing so many of you on this path) is that healing isn’t about doing it all alone. It’s about letting others walk beside us, offer a hand, or simply witness our growth. In my group programs, it’s not just about personal breakthroughs, but about building a web of support that lifts us all up.
If you’ve ever felt like you’re too much or not enough, or that your story is too messy to share, I promise you’re not alone. Community support means there’s always someone who can relate, someone who’s been there, and someone who’s rooting for you. Sometimes, the simple act of showing up for another person is the most healing thing we can do for ourselves.
So, how can you tap into the power of community on your healing journey?
- Reach out to a friend or group that feels safe and supportive.
- Share your story, even if your voice shakes. Someone needs to hear it.
- Offer support to someone else—you’ll be surprised how much it heals you, too.
- Explore programs or collectives that are all about connection and growth. (Stand By Me, my intimate, small group program for women who want to go deep into how voice challenges us, learn how to find and use their voices, and maintain their commitment to themselves ongoing, is running again in early September. A good part of its success has been the group support. The link is above, but feel free to connect with me directly for more details. ❤️)
Remember, healing thrives in community. You don’t have to do it alone, and you’re never too much or too little to belong. Let’s keep showing up for each other—with honesty, compassion, and those strong, loud voices we’re always talking about.
