We all know what it’s like to be unable to use our voices. But what about how it feels when we can?

When we’re fully using our voices, it’s like stepping into a new level of empowerment, one that may have been hiding for a while. It’s warm, it’s fuzzy, it’s loving, and it reminds us of the goodness that is always available to us when we express exactly who we are and what we feel. We are confident, unfiltered, and authentic; it feels like every word we say carries weight and meaning. (Because it does!)

It doesn’t matter if we’re standing in front of an audience, talking to our challenging neighbour, trying to figure out our next steps, or simply sharing thoughts with friends. It’s so liberating to feel that rush of adrenaline as our ideas flow freely and openly to people around us. But that’s only half of it.

There is also how it feels when we experience the receiving of our words (which has absolutely nothing to do with the content of what we have said, btw). We know our voice is safe when our words are heard, considered, and responded to, no matter what we’ve said. That’s a healthy voice relationship.

The body wants in on this topic, too. Think about what the opposite of being shut down feels like.

No tension. No upset stomach. No headache. No emotional discomfort. No tightening of the solar plexus, or the clogging of the throat chakra. No fear or shame. No pain of being unheard in any way, shape or form. Just a calm nervous system, perfectly regulated and feeling good! You might even find a sense of relief as if a heavy burden has been lifted off your shoulders.

Can you feel all that? It feels yummy from my end!

Ultimately, voice gives you connections that silencing takes away. And we all want to feel connected, not only to others but also to ourselves. It happens by embracing vulnerability while celebrating our own strength, never forgetting that we have a unique perspective in this world that needs to be heard.

I wanted to remind you of all that and ask you to allow yourself to visit those feelings when you have some time for silence and some stillness. It’s truly magical.
