Happy summer!!
We are pretty much in the middle of our summer in Canada. Weather in my part of the country has been good. Weird at times, but good.
What does summer mean to you?
For me it’s long hot days, outdoor swimming and biking, leisurely walks, camping, farmer’s markets, outdoor patios, CFL football, travelling, gardening, and evening campfires to name a few.
I even love the smell of freshly cut grass.
Next question…
What do you love to do in the summer? What makes your heart warm? What makes you smile? How do you want to feel in the summer?
It’s easy to get caught up in what other people love for you to do, what different things that your house or your family may dictate in the summer season, or that extra work load that never seems to go away. Then before you know it, the weather turns cool, the leaves fall and summer is over.
But you have the opportunity, in any season, to make yourself feel the way you want to feel. Sure, get your shit done but don’t stop there.
What if you decided to do what makes you happy this summer? And I don’t mean just a one-off. What if you did something on your summer happy list every day until the end of the season?
For so many, summer brings fond memories of childhood fun times, or times when our lives were more free than they are now. Now is about responsibilities of countless number. True, that’s part of life.
But don’t let it grab you by the short ones. Summer is still your time, you just have to make it so.
Make your summer fun list and start to make it happen. Every damn day.
Life is short, remember? And so is summer in Canada.
My daughter has created a little oasis in her back yard with a campfire and movie projector. We celebrated a family birthday with an open tent, a kids movie, and major flexiblity on bedtime for the grandbabes. It was an awesome night together.
I love the outdoor movies idea so much that I am headed out today to look for a projector of our own. I promised my hubby a (somewhat) spooky movie this weekend if we pull it off.
No matter what’s on your summer happy list, just work it. Get out and go to where that smile gets firmly planted on your beautiful face.
And don’t forget your must-have fashion item.
Your flip flops.
