I was talking with a friend the other day about how often when life seems like too much, we simply retreat, closing down on our world and ourselves.

I call that hiding. Are you a hider?

Definition of Hider: One who hides from the onslaught of life, possibly using the following tools: a tv, a couch, a bag of chips, an abundance of chocolate, and a favourite bevi.

I get it and I’ve also been there. Sometimes we just need a break from life’s human sauce and all it places at our feet. All we want to do is curl up and shut it all out.

But does it work? Does it actually help you manage that human sauce any better, or does it just distract you from it until you have to re-engage? And re-engage you will because that sauce is a very real part of your human life on earth.

Hiding may seem like the thing to do at that moment, but other than zoning out from your reality for a short time, nothing else changes. Hiding doesn’t take anything away, all the same sauce is there when you get back.

I could talk about self-care all day as a way to nurture and nourish us. Resting, treating ourselves with pure compassion, and fully loving on us, is the best ticket to keep us strong enough to show up when and as we want.

But there is more.

Go inside.

It’s easy to ignore things in your life that aren’t working for you.

I need that job.
She means well.
I’m exhausted.

How about you go into yourself and look the shit you don’t like about your life right in the eyes?

Be honest with yourself. Recognize that the parts of your life you’d rather be hiding from are exactly where you need to look inside for your own answers. After all, the Universe will continue to offer you life examples of what’s working and not working for you until you change things up.

Self-alignment feels way better than hiding from your truth. Use your inner voice to support yourself to ask for a high-vibe life that feels good. After all, that’s what we’re here for.

So when you take that deep dive inside, ask what you need. Feel into what you want and desire. Use what you know about yourself to consciously problem-solve. Make a commitment to honour yourself going forward. Reach out for support if you need it. Breathe.

Figure out what’s not working for you instead of hiding from it.

Then you’ll be so much more prepared when you haven’t seen your bestie for a while and she opens her door in pjs and a bag of chips under her arm. 😀
