These are scary times and women are worried.

Worried for the health of our kids, our partners, our aging parents, our extended families, our friends.

Worried that people are dying from Covid-19, and someone in our household still needs to go to work.

Worried about our income source should we get laid off from a non-essential business or have been told to close up our own small business.

Worried about our retirement plan that has just taken a massive hit.

And being women, we are far too worried about all that to pay much attention to what we need.

Taking care of yourself. What…..?

But truthfully, this pandemic is just one of the many emotional shit-kickings that we will experience over our life time.

Maybe you have gone through childhood trauma, substance abuse, divorce, serious illness, job loss, or the death of loved ones.

All those things are emotional shit kickings too. All those things take a toll on us, our minds, and our bodies.

You know when the flight attendant tells you to put your oxygen mask on before you put on someone else’s? This is not a time to ignore that recommendation!

It’s time to keep your strength up so you can be there for the people you love and do the things that you know matter in a time of crisis.

And the first thing to do is begin to care for yourself, whatever that looks like to you.

I know, it’s not something that sits well with you. We women are not wired to care for ourselves. It’s a real effort and can bring with it feelings of guilt and even shame.

But guilt means you did something wrong. Keeping yourself strong so you can keep up your pace of helping is not wrong, it’s smart.

And shame means you feel you are wrong. Keeping yourself strong so you can help others is not you being wrong, it’s the right thing to do when people need you, and it’s WHO YOU ARE.

I want to give you a place to be heard and learn some tools for managing this emotional shit kicking of gigantic proportions.

And if all you want to do is listen, that’s ok too.
